Heya Shortboxers, we’re back with more Just The Facts. We’ve looked at Suicide Squad and Aquaman before. In this post, we’re going to learn about Ant-Man! The Ant-Man movie comes out in just under a month; it’s time to become more familiar with our tiny hero.

In our Aquaman post, we lamented that many people would be new to Aquaman, but Ant-Man? We imagine there’s whole new level of newness. In addition to the surprise of Ant-Man getting a dedicated movie, we were also surprised that he is played by Paul Rudd of all people! Now, don’t get us wrong, we love Paul Rudd. We just never pictured him as a superhero. Alright, that’s enough of Paul Rudd, let’s get to the main event: Just the Facts: Ant-Man.

Wanna feel weird? I’ve got just the thing for you. Prophet is a space opera that is like David Lynch’s Dune meets Conan: The Barbarian (Arnold version, sorry Aquaman) meets The Cantina from Star Wars meets Multiplicity. That’s right. I referenced Multiplicity. The Michael Keaton rom-com from the 90’s. Oh, don’t be that way. You know you want to read about space Conan turning everything in his path into a blood jelly.

Jason momoa as aquaman, who is aquaman

That’s right, Shortboxers, we’re back with our second Just The Facts. The first time we looked at Suicide Squad when they announced their all-star lineup, filling people in on the likes of Deadshot and Enchantress. Now we have a fast-rising star, Jason Momoa, cast as the Khal of the seven seas. Aquaman is a curious bird, or fish I guess, because everyone has probably heard of Aquaman – but how many people know more than his name and his predilection for scale armor? Let’s go to school.

spawn digital library and blog.shortboxed.com

Here at shortboxed, we are advocates of the physical medium of comic books. The tactile feel of the pages as we scrutinize the art, the story, the lettering… we feel it simply can’t be beat. But sometimes the utility and ease of digital comics reminds us that there is a place for both formats.

It’s easy to forget that, in the comic industry (and everywhere else, for that matter), we still need to fight for diversity. We’ve featured a few different creators that keep diversity top of mind, and we wanted to highlight an event where you can go to hear about diversity in the comic industry. If you’re going to Long Beach Comic Expo, this one’s for you.

Shortboxed was lucky enough to catch Brian K. Vaughan during a lull as he was doing a signing at Isotope Comics in San Francisco. We didn’t get him to ourselves for long, but we made sure to ask him a few questions. Check out our (brief) interview with one of the nicest dudes we’ve met, and writer of some of our favorite comic series of all time.

As Shortboxed wraps up 2014, and our 3rd month of existence, we take this time to look back at our (admittedly) short life and the posts that you read the most. We also have some other stats that we think are interesting, and we hope that you do too.
