It’s that time again, one of pop culture’s most beloved franchises is making waves with a new movie and subtitle. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was announced today, and we’ve grabbed a diverse range of fan (or non-fan) reactions from Twitter, Reddit and Star Wars’ Facebook page. You know, wretched hives of scum and villainy. Let’s take a look at the wide-range of reactions from The Internet.
News like this is bound to make the front page on Reddit. The top comment right now, by /u/BizzyM suggests a few follow up titles for the rest of the Trilogy. We’ll have a few more comments from the witty Redditor crowd, but if you want to take a look at the entire thread, go for it.
In addition to light mockery, we also have a bit of optimism from the more full-time nerd circuit. We have to be inclined to agree, it’s a killer time to be a nerd or getting into some nerdy things. Oh… and we have some more title suggestions. I’d totally see “The Force is So Fancy”.
And, of course, not all Star Wars fans were willing to let the franchise be slapped around by naysayers. A quick jab turns into a useful discussion about the events of the film and the reasoning behind the title.
On Star Wars’ Facebook page, the initial reaction was more diffused than one might expect. I’ve seen some massive flame wars happen in the comments here, and I was genuinely surprised at the measured responses. Of course, this is only the top comment. Explore at your own risk.
One of our favorite Star Wars related Twitter accounts, Depressed Darth weighs in with yet another title suggestion.
And hey, some people really like what they see.I enjoyed how this fan ignored the content of “Attack of the Clones” to concentrate on just the title. Attack of the Clones, as a movie, has been long-lambasted by the Star Wars community – but when the title was announced, there was general excitement as we were about to be treated to a movie about one of the more enigmatic events of the Star Wars movie mythos.
It’s time to go to school. “Noooooooooo” – the struggle is real.
And others couldn’t have cared less about the title – Matt Babb just wants more Star Wars. Title be damned!
We see what you did here.
